In the time of Elizabeth 1 of England (1592), the London Clerk of Markets issued a decree forbidding the sale of hot cross buns and other spiced breads, except at burials, on Good Friday, or at Christmas.
Today these are widely available in the lead up to Easter, in Britain and other parts of the British Commonwealth, like Australia.
We couldn't find any to our liking, available in Lubbock. So we made our own.
It's like a less-sweet cinnamon bun, best served lightly warmed, with plenty of butter.
A generous baker's dozen, with 15 buns per order.
